The Experience
Coach tours from Paris spend most of the day on the motorway. By train we're in Amboise in about an hour and a half, and we spend the day in the châteaux, not on a bus.
We start at the royal château of Amboise, where François I grew up and Leonardo da Vinci lies in the chapel of Saint-Hubert, with the Loire spread out below its terraces. After lunch in town, a short taxi ride takes us to Chenonceau.
Chenonceau is the château of two rival women, Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Médicis, each with her own garden, and its gallery is a ballroom built across the Cher. Your timed entries are booked before you arrive, so no time is lost at the ticket desk: two châteaux, done well, rather than three in a rush.
Route & Walking Info
- Distance: 4 to 6 km on foot
- Terrain: Ramps and stairs at Amboise, garden paths at Chenonceau
- Pace: Whatever feels good to you. We take breaks when we need them.
- Accessibility: If you need to avoid stairs or long walks, tell me before booking and I'll adapt the route.
Good to Know
- Meeting Point: Gare Montparnasse, in front of the main departure boards (Hall 1). I'll send a map link and very clear instructions once you book.
- Timing: Meet me 15 minutes before the train; I'll have everything ready.
- A long day: We leave early and are back in Paris in the evening; most of the travel is on comfortable trains.
- Tickets: Your timed entries for both châteaux are booked and included. Train tickets and the taxi between the châteaux are paid separately.
- Shoes: Wear your most comfortable ones. Really.
- Bags: Keep them small; many sites have security checks.
- Late Arrivals: Trains don't wait. If we miss ours, we'll take the next one; any ticket change fee is at your cost.
Optional Add-Ons
- Clos Lucé (Leonardo's house) instead of a long lunch
- Vouvray wine tasting (18+)
- Other Languages (Ask me about availability)
- Afternoon Planning (I can help you map out the rest of your day nearby)
After You Book
- A personal confirmation once I've checked the date. I confirm every booking myself.
- My meeting instructions, clear and simple.
- I'll ask what you're most curious about (or what you'd rather skip), and shape the visit around it.
- Mobility needs or children in the group? Tell me early and I'll plan for it.
- Want lunch or dinner afterwards? I'll suggest a table I'd book myself nearby.
FAQ
Is it really private? Yes. Just you, your group, and me.
Are the château tickets included? Yes. I book timed entries for Amboise and Chenonceau for your group. Train tickets and the taxi are paid separately.
Why not Chambord too? Three châteaux in one day from Paris means very little time in each. Two, done well, is a better day.
Can you meet us in Amboise? Yes, if you're staying in the Loire; ask me for a local price.
Send me your dates and what you love most, and I'll shape the day around you.
