The Experience

Père-Lachaise is the most visited cemetery in the world, and it's easy to spend two hours hunting for graves on your phone. I prefer to tell one story through them.

We start with Héloïse and Abélard, the lovers whose arrival made the cemetery fashionable, then Chopin (whose heart is in Warsaw), Molière and La Fontaine, moved here as a publicity stunt, Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison and Édith Piaf.

We end at the Communards' Wall, where the Paris Commune ended in 1871. It's a beautiful walk in every season, and in autumn it's simply magical.

Route & Walking Info

  • Distance: 3 to 4 km
  • Terrain: Hilly, cobbled paths, uneven ground in places, little shade
  • Pace: Whatever feels good to you. We take breaks when we need them.
  • Accessibility: If you need to avoid stairs or long walks, tell me before booking and I'll adapt the route.

Good to Know

  • Meeting Point: Main gate of Père-Lachaise, boulevard de Ménilmontant (metro Philippe Auguste). I'll send a map link and very clear instructions once you book.
  • Timing: Try to be there 10 minutes early so we can start smoothly.
  • Respect: It's still a working cemetery. If there's a funeral, we keep our voices down or take another path.
  • Shoes: Good walking shoes, the cobbles are uneven.
  • Rain: We go ahead in light rain.
  • Shoes: Wear your most comfortable ones. Really.
  • Bags: Keep them small; many sites have security checks.
  • Late Arrivals: If you're late, it cuts into our time, but I'll make sure you still see the essentials.

Optional Add-Ons

  • Belleville café stop at the end
  • All Saints' Day special
  • "Paris Commune" theme
  • Other Languages (Ask me about availability)
  • Afternoon Planning (I can help you map out the rest of your day nearby)

After You Book

  • A personal confirmation once I've checked the date. I confirm every booking myself.
  • My meeting instructions, clear and simple.
  • I'll ask what you're most curious about (or what you'd rather skip), and shape the visit around it.
  • Mobility needs or children in the group? Tell me early and I'll plan for it.
  • Want lunch or dinner afterwards? I'll suggest a table I'd book myself nearby.

FAQ

Is it really private? Yes. Just you, your group, and me.

Is it suitable for children? Yes, if they're happy to walk. I keep the stories light for younger ones.

Is it wheelchair accessible? Only partly: the paths are steep and cobbled. Contact me before booking and I'll suggest a route.

Send me your dates and what you love most, and I'll shape the day around you.
